SUMMER READING

For eighth grade, all seventh grade students are required to read Gathering Blue and Messenger by Lois Lowry. In addition, you are required to take reading notes while you are reading. You may use Post-its or a notebook.

The following types of notes are acceptable:

• text-text
• text-self
• text-world
• alternative scenarios
• speculations
• opinions
• agree/disagree with ideas in text
• draw conclusions
• question the text
• analyze the author's word choice
• think about connotations (positive or negative) of words
• demonstrate emotional engagement with the text
